The longest solar eclipse in the 21st century occurs on the 22nd of July, 2009 starting around 1:32am (GMT). The eclipse will last 6 minutes and 39 seconds, with the Moon casting its shadow over India, China and many pacific islands. Unfortunately the eclipse will only be visible in Asia and the Pacific.Millions of people will experience the eclipse in the early morning, with a local India time around 5:32 am in Delhi, 6:02 am Dacca, Bangladesh time, and 9:32 am in Beijing, China.

Hundreds of millions of people across India, China and Japan will witness the longest solar eclipse of the century on Wednesday (22 July 2009). Tourists and scientists are flocking to the best viewing spots from across the globe for up to six minutes and 39 seconds of darkness. The total eclipse will appear at dawn in Indias Gulf of Khambhat, north of Mumbai, moving east across India, Nepal, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China and pass across southern Japanese islands, with a last brief view from Nikumaroro Island in the South Pacific nation of Kiribati.
